What to my wondering eyes did appear, but a magical display at CVS! Click the image to see the delightful details. There’s a Horde box with an Orc, featuring Citrus Cherry flavored Dew, and a blue Alliance box showing a Night Elf who prefers Wild Berry flavored Dew.

Album cover meme

I stole it from Kestrel. Who took it from Softthistle. And I love the idea, so I’m doing it even though I wasn’t tagged!

Here are the “rules”:

1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random… Read More”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Here’s mine — I think it came out so cool! — with Flickr photo credit to Che-burashka:

The Opposite of People

I hereby tag:

Help me find the Dixie Chicks

Bobby McFerrin is a tool. Or at least his label, WMG, is a bunch of tools. Here’s proof.

It was just this harmless video posted on Youtube — now removed, mind you — but uploaded here for your amusement and my pettiness toward them.

Don’t Worry, Be Death Knight

Now what does all this have to do with the Dixie Chicks? Well, I’ve been working for several months on a mini biopic set to the tune of one of their songs. But when I got slapped by Bobby McFerrin’s thugs, I got scared. I do NOT want to upset the Chicks because I am a huge fan. So I decided I could either give up on the movie or write and ask the Dixie Chicks if I could have permission to use one of their songs in my silly movie.

Can anyone help me in that six-degrees-of-separation way? Like you twitter folks?

Majel Roddenberry died today

From StarTrek.com

From StarTrek.com

She died of leukemia at her home in Bel Air. Saw the announcement on Space.com (a little news clip on my Gmail, actually).

I had the privilege of meeting her once in 1991. I worked at a company which was headed by Loy Baxter, a good friend of Gene’s (and also the father of Skunk Baxter of the Doobie Brothers). They were buddies at the Bel Air Country Club. Loy found out that I was a huge Star Trek fan and convinced Gene to let him take me and a few friends to the Roddenberrys’ big Halloween party. I was excited beyond words! They threw a big bash every year and there would be Star Trek celebs, professional makeup and costumes, and movie-quality special effects set up around the mansion. I looked forward to the party for months.

Then, on October 24, Gene died. As you might imagine, they cancelled the Halloween party that year.

Later that year, for Christmas, it was Loy’s tradition to take the employees of our small company out to lunch at the Bel Air Country Club. Oh, fancy schmancy! On the way in we saw then-big TV star Corbin Bernsen taking a few swings on the driving range. But the real highlight came for me after we had eaten our salads and across the room, straight to our table, came Majel Roddenberry to greet Loy. I was sitting right next to him and my mouth dropped open because I recognized her right away. She was so kind to all of us. Loy introduced me to her and she shook my hand — a very warm, gracious handshake — and beamed a smile at me. I, of course, stammered and said nothing of use.

Majel Roddenberry helped her husband in conveying his vision of a positive, optimistic future for humankind. These ideas had a profound impact on my life. Now that they are both gone from this world, I’m doubly sad. I hope some day we can live up to the kind of future they saw for us. Rest in peace, dear Majel.

Fastest Netmeme EVAR!

Wow, it didn’t take long for the Bush shoe-dodging incident to turn into a raging net meme. And a dang funny one, at that. I first saw this linked via Gaming Massively, but the original versions are on Boing Boing. (Or at least as “original” as I care to trace back to.)

The idea was to take another cultural reference and apply it to the footage of Bush dodging the shoe. I couldn’t get all the references, but the first WoW one is extremely funny (especially the “AFK Maliki”). There are also tributes to Pokemon, Monty Python, the Three Stooges, and a very amusing version of The Matrix. Here’s the WoW one, but do go check out the other ones, too.

Ur wordle – I stoled it!

Took the idea from Too Many Annas. This mashup contains the words on the front page of my blog (not including this here post I’m writing). You can make your own here. I wonder how much one should read into these things…

Oh noes…!

‘In a world’ voiceover master dies at 68 – CNN.com

You must watch!

‘Tis very amusing!

Text Message Humor

TJ often shares posts from her RSS feeds via Google Reader. One of my favorites sites that she shares is a site which transcribes overheard conversations in New York. Extremely humorous stuff. In that spirit, I offer a text message exchange between me and my friend (the ironically named) DJ. Backstory: her boyfriend had an accident and she took him to the hospital.

Me: How’s [your boyfriend]?

DJ: 2 broken ribs… and one big asshole.

A New Feature from Wordpress

Wordpress recently introduced a feature that will probably improve your hit count. They are calling it “Possibly Related Posts” and it appears at the bottom of all Wordpress posts automatically. (You have to be looking at the permalink version of your post, not the home page version, in order to see it.) This feature looks for pages on your blog and other people’s blogs that seem to be similar to the post you’re reading. It’s like when YouTube or Amazon offers you recommendations based on what you’ve just viewed. Pretty cool, I think. Not only for bloggers but also for me as a reader — to find new and interesting blogs to read that I normally never would have read!

Here’s what it looks like at the bottom of my Running of Da Bulls post, linking to another post on my blog:

And here’s what one looks like linking to another blog entirely from my Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Contest post:

Cool, huh? Tawk amongst yourselves…
